Story
A woman takes a career break to be a stay-at-home mom, but her domestic behavior soon takes a surreal turn. It was originally intended to be released straight to streaming on Hulu, but strong reception from test screenings led Searchlight Pictures to give it a wide theatrical release instead.. Starring Graham Norton and guests: Bruce Springsteen/Amy Adams/Vanessa Williams/Bill Bailey/St. Vincent (2024). The film is generally good, but I expected it to be more dark and terrifying, rather than comedic.
Adams is undeniably incredible
The target audience must be parents. While I am not a parent at the moment, I can completely resonate with the themes presented. If you have questions about motherhood and female rage, you may find this film insightful. The script is also well-written; some of the character dialogue is very sharp. Mariel Heller is definitely a talented female director who can adapt a seemingly impossible book into a successful film.
It’s a career-defining performance
This is the best performance I’ve seen from her yet, and it might be the best performance I’ve seen this year. She’s wild, bold, and funny. She truly gives it her all. The depth of her performance is evident in the intricate details of her facial expressions, which beautifully convey her anger, joy, and pain. Adams embodies the role of a mother with an authenticity that resonates deeply, likely stemming from her own experiences as a real-life mother.
No, definitely not
This personal connection elevates her performance, making it feel both relatable and real. I can’t help but feel a strong connection between her character and my own mother, as if she captures the essence of a mother’s love and sacrifice in a way that really speaks to me. This film so far seems to be divisive. I’ve seen some people dismiss her performance, and many believe that Adams shouldn’t win or even be nominated for this strange role. To me, acting awards are always based on performance, not film.
The passion shouldn’t go away
She’s the vehicle of the film. She should definitely be nominated or even win. I hope more people can recognize and see my points. Also, Scoot McNairy is fantastic too. Despite some flaws, the film is worth watching.
