WatchMojo Spotlight: The 10 Best Off-the-Radar Summer TV Shows (2018)
Story
A Montana farming family faces encroachment on their land. Forry J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, has experience in the world of Rodeo. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget”; his Montana accent and he reverts to his usual SoCal speaking voice.
Kevin Costner is the patriarch who runs a dynastic ranch the size of some towns
His way of life is influenced by resort developers, tribal law and the authority of the state of Montana. Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “The Giant,” he tries to stick to the old ways. “Yellowstone” builds quickly with few introductions, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the desert, adhering to tribal rituals, cowboy conventions and political machinations. It’s an unlikely tale that straddles the line between law and justice, family and friendship.
It seems natural for Costner to reprise his role
He is a world-weary man who has seen too much and lied too often. The land and his family are his life force. He can hear the footsteps approaching, but he can only play his role out of habit and loyalty. Although some of the actions are a bit confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is seeing a real slice of life, a glimpse into another world.
I raise my rating to "9"
I hope the conclusion of this saga includes an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and attention to detail. Update 07/20/18: After four episodes, this episode has a strong voice and a steady pace. We learn the whole story, from root to fruit. New season of "Silo" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
